Dr. Chris Peters was raised in Kansas with Midwestern values–like honesty, accountability and responsibility–which have guided him throughout his life, his career in medicine and his service in the Army. Now as a candidate for Congress, Chris is using those same values to provide what career politicians refuse: the truth.

Chris went to college and medical school at the University of Kansas, attending medical school on an Army scholarship. He served nine years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a general surgery resident and staff general surgeon.

Chris took care of active duty troops and veterans around the world. After his service, he completed a second residency in thoracic surgery at the University of Oklahoma.

During his last year of general residency training in the Army, Chris met and married Julie, who was then a traveling nurse from rural northern Iowa. They’ve been married for 24 years, and are the proud parents of three handsome sons: Cole, Jake, and Caleb.

The family relocated to Iowa in 2004, where Chris practices as a surgeon, and operates his own clinic in Coralville. As a small business owner, Chris knows the challenges business owners face–keeping a budget, attracting new business, dealing with government regulations–but most of all, serving his patients as the valued customers they are.

Chris is running for Congress in the same way he has served patients all his life: by always being honest, by thoroughly understanding problems before recommending solutions, and by putting the interests of others first. Career politicians in Washington don’t do any of these things. They jump to conclusions to find quick-fixes, advancing their careers and delivering for special interests they are beholden to rather than serving the people.

Chris believes Iowa deserves a public servant who will do what is right, not what is politically convenient. Chris will deliver the solutions politicians refuse to offer and will focus on the country we are leaving to future generations. As a doctor, veteran and small business owner, Chris understands the issues hurting our country, and he’s running to solve them.
